Carey Mulligan to return to New York theatre with ‘phenomenal’ one-woman show about marriage breakdown

She was praised for a ‘phenomenal, unpredictable, proper feat of acting’ when the show made its debut in London in February.

And now British actress Carey Mulligan is bringing her one-woman show to New York, as Girls And Boys arrives at an Off-Broadway theater.

Due for transfer from the Royal Court Theatre – where Carey began her stage career as a young actress – to the Minetta Lane Theater in NYC, the show is expected to be another sell-out.

Carey charts the breakdown of a relationship, from a chance meeting on an EasyJet flight to his absence and her discontent.

They have two children Leanne and Danny but in this show, Carey is the only presence onstage.

During the London shows, it was reported that the marriage takes a ‘disturbing turn’ ‘with disastrous consequences’ yet the breakdown is only portrayed from the side of Carey’s unnamed character.
